Hungary sees WWII history book release and nationwide electricity‑saving effort

A new publication titled *Juhász Péter – Juhász Péterné Ballai Etelka Julianna: Emlékezzünk… Hajdúszoboszló a II. világháborúban* documents the events of World War II in the town of Hajdúszoboszló, focusing on the civilian population, deportees and soldiers. It records that in January 1945 the town’s German minority was forced into labour under the principle of collective guilt, and includes personal recollections, letters and documents across more than 100 pages.

Separately, Hungarian Energy Minister Kapitány István reported that, after a voluntary call for reduced consumption, the country’s electricity use fell 151 megawatts below the planned level during the critical evening peak (17‑22 h). He credited households and businesses for delaying electric‑car charging, raising thermostats and postponing washing. The government will ask for similar cuts in the coming days, and the minister visited the Dunamenti Power Plant in Százhalombatta and the Paksi Nuclear Power Plant as part of the effort.
