Hungary Sets 2026‑27 School Calendar and Announces Education Ministry Reforms
The Ministry of Education released the timetable for the 2026/27 academic year, which will run from 1 September 2026 to 18 June 2027 and comprise 180 teaching days. Non‑teaching days are reduced from eight to five, competency tests are fewer, and a digital work schedule will be used for grades 9‑11 between 3‑7 May 2027. A mandatory “Students' Voice” theme day is also introduced to give pupils a greater role in school decisions.
Education Minister Judit Lannert said she will travel to schools this summer to observe daily conditions, collect feedback and increase transparency. The visits will inform reforms slated for the autumn, including revisions to curricula, the textbook supply system and the rules governing teacher performance assessments.
