Hungary school‑start support deadline: report SNI status by July 22

Hungarian social and family affairs minister Vilmos Kátai‑Németh reminded parents that the special education needs (SNI) status of their children must be reported to the relevant school or vocational institution by 22 July. The declaration is required for the child to be entered into official education registers and to qualify for the school‑start support.

The State Treasury receives SNI data from the Ministry of Education and the National Vocational Training Office. If a child is not listed in those databases, the support cannot be considered, and the Treasury will not accept parental notifications. The support, amounting to HUF 100 000 per child in two instalments, is expected to be approved by the Parliament on the forthcoming Tuesday.

Parents are urged to obtain an expert opinion from the Pedagogical Service’s expert committee and submit the documentation promptly to avoid loss of the benefit.
