Hungary to acquire laser weapons and redirect defense funds

Hungarian Defence Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi has announced significant shifts in the country’s military development and spending priorities. The Minister stated that within one year, the Hungarian Defence Forces will possess laser weapons capable of destroying various types of drones, highlighting the high quality of domestic military technology development.

Additionally, the Ministry is redirecting funds previously intended for establishing ministerial offices in the Buda Castle toward improving the living conditions and infrastructure of soldiers. Approximately 200 infrastructure projects have been launched this year to modernize barracks and facilities in locations including Hajdúhadház, Debrecen, Tata, and Szolnok, with new military facilities planned for Nyírtelke. These budgetary changes follow a review of previous expenditures, which included controversial costs such as private roads and luxury vehicle use.
