Hungary to Boost Wind Power Capacity Tenfold by 2030

The Hungarian government announced a sweeping renewable‑energy programme that aims to raise the country's wind‑power capacity from roughly 330 MW to 4 GW by 2030 – more than a ten‑fold increase. A tender for at least 700 MW of new wind capacity is to be published by August 31, with the first‑round investments projected at up to €1 billion. The overall scheme involves about €2.5 billion, including €1.5 billion earmarked for modernising the electricity transmission and distribution networks, partly financed with EU funds.

The Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) has opened an online questionnaire for market participants to submit project details by 8 July, helping the regulator assess key parameters such as location, installed power, permitting status and grid readiness. The collected data will feed into capacity‑allocation procedures to ensure coordinated planning of new wind farms and necessary grid upgrades.
