Hungary to distribute school start support and family allowances on August 24
The Hungarian State Treasury has announced that the first installment of the school start support, along with the advanced September family allowance, will be paid out on August 24.
The school start support consists of a total of 100,000 HUF per child, distributed in two parts. On August 24, eligible families will receive the first 50,000 HUF via bank transfer or through Magyar Posta for those without bank accounts. The remaining 50,000 HUF will be provided in the form of vouchers for items such as clothing and footwear by the end of November.
According to the Treasury, the support will reach over 403,000 children across approximately 293,700 families. Eligibility includes families receiving regular child protection benefits (where monthly per capita income is at most 64,125 HUF net), single-parent families, children with special educational needs, chronically ill children, children with severe disabilities, orphans, and those in foster care or child protection institutions. The support is tax-free and does not affect eligibility for other benefits.
