Hungary to double family allowance payments in August 2026

The Hungarian government will provide a school‑start allowance of 100,000 forints to eligible children, paid in two installments: the first 50,000 forints will be transferred by 24 August 2026 and the second installment will be issued as a voucher or card in November. Eligibility is automatic for children in families receiving regular child‑care benefits, those with severe disabilities, children of single parents, and other listed categories, but single‑parent families must be registered in the state’s database for the benefit to be triggered.

In August 2026 the family allowance schedule will be altered, with two separate payments: the first on 4 August and a second on 24 August, after which no payment will be made in September. The advance payment is intended to help families cover school‑start expenses, while the regular September disbursement will be omitted.
