Hungary to increase minimum pension to 120,000 HUF
The Tisza government has announced a significant correction to the minimum pension in Hungary. Starting in January, the minimum pension will increase to 120,000 HUF, a substantial rise from the 28,500 HUF level that has remained unchanged since 2008.
Additionally, benefits for persons with changed working capacities will increase by a uniform 10 percent. This includes a rise to 120,000 HUF for those over the age of 65 with changed working capacities. However, several questions remain regarding the scope of these changes, such as whether they apply to widow's pensions or individuals entitled to pensions from other countries following foreign employment.
The implementation of these measures and other promised benefits, such as the 'Szép-kártya' for seniors, appears to be linked to the current budget situation. The current supplementary budget does not include the senior card benefits previously anticipated by Prime Minister Magyar Péter for October. Furthermore, the state will not pay pension premiums this year, as they are contingent on economic growth exceeding 3.5 percent.
