Hungary to renovate 20 km of Lake Balaton cycling paths

Minister of Transport and Investment Dávid Vitézy has announced a major renovation project for segments of the Balaton Cycling Route on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. The project aims to address issues such as damaged pavement, tree root damage, and narrow paths that prevent cyclists from passing one another safely.

The renovation will cover approximately 14.4 kilometers across seven settlements: Tihany, Balatonfüred, Csopak, Paloznak, Alsóörs, Balatonalmádi, and Balatonfűzfő. Key developments include the construction of six bicycle bridges, two new railway crossings equipped with light and half-barriers, and the creation of independent, two-way paths typically 3.3 meters wide.

Some initial segments of the renovation are expected to be completed by next summer, with the broader project unfolding through two parallel development programs.
