Hungary to renovate 570 kilometres of roads this year

Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy announced that Hungary will renovate 570 kilometres of national main and secondary roads across 210 locations this year. The total investment for these projects is approximately 149 billion forints.

A significant portion of the work, involving 114 projects valued at roughly 58.1 billion forints, will be funded through the European Union’s TOP Plusz programme. These EU-funded projects cover 324 kilometres, representing nearly 57 per cent of the total road network scheduled for renovation in 2024.

The minister emphasized that the projects aim to connect villages, small towns, and regional centers. Most renovations will involve reinforcing the full road structure rather than simple resurfacing to ensure long-term durability and safety. Work is scheduled to take place in every Hungarian county, with the highest number of projects located in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Pest counties.
