Hungary undergoes political shift as Fidesz dominance wanes

Following recent political shifts in Hungary, the political landscape is undergoing a significant transition. The Fidesz party has seen a decline in its long-standing dominance, while the Tisza Party has emerged as a major political force. Amidst this change, the Mi Hazánk party has managed to maintain its previous electoral results, avoiding both total collapse and significant expansion.

The political transition has also sparked renewed interest in constitutional reform. Discussions are centering on the potential replacement of the current Fundamental Law, which was criticized for being frequently amended—fifteen times in fourteen years—to serve specific political needs and limit the oversight of the Constitutional Court. There is growing momentum for establishing a new legal foundation to restore democratic institutions that were dismantled during the previous era.
