Ukraine defeats Hungary 1-0 in Nations League match amid on-field clashes

Ukraine defeated Hungary 1-0 in their UEFA Nations League B division opener at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest. Danylo Sikan scored the decisive goal in the 42nd minute following a cross from Heorhiy Sudakov.

The match was marked by significant tension and physical altercations. Following a red card issued to Ukraine's Oleksandr Nazarenko in stoppage time, players from both sides engaged in a heated confrontation on the pitch. The unrest extended to the stands, where spectators reportedly threw objects toward the field. Referee Jared Gillett issued several yellow cards to players including Dominik Szoboszlai, Miloš Kerkez, Viktor Tsygankov, and Mykola Matviyenko to restore order.

Ukrainian defender Illia Zabarnyi noted that the atmosphere was heightened by the booing of the Ukrainian national anthem by some spectators, describing it as a “huge disrespect to our people.” Hungarian coach Marco Rossi attributed the loss to missed opportunities and a lack of squad depth due to injuries to key players like Roland Sallai and Barnabás Varga.
