Hungary's Balaton Water Network Project Valued at 646 Billion Forints

The Dunántúli Regionális Vízmű Zrt. (DRV) announced that after four years of planning, detailed design documents are ready for a comprehensive water‑utility overhaul in the Balaton region. The project is estimated at 646 billion forints and is expected to be carried out over the next 5‑10 years, with construction largely dependent on European Union funding and domestic co‑financing.

The upgrade will modernise the drinking‑water supply, increase the region’s water‑capacity, replace surface‑water extraction facilities and reduce network losses. It includes the design of new water bases at Nyirádi, Kincsesbánya‑Rákhegyi, Várpalota‑Inota and Mura, expansion and reconstruction of the Balaton‑Újlaki and Balatonfüredi wastewater‑treatment plants, as well as 20 lift stations and about 104 km of sewer pipelines. Energy‑efficiency installations and renewable‑energy facilities are also part of the plan, funded through the KEHOP and KEHOP Plus EU support programmes.
