Hungary’s Chief Prosecutor warned about secret‑service handling of the gold convoy case

The message, dated 18 May, warned that the operation – conducted under the authority of the Constitutional Protection Office (AH) and involving the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) – might be portrayed as a joint effort between the AH and the Prosecutor’s Office, exposing serious professional errors.

The email, obtained by the news portal 444, described the operation as a “TISZA Party‑targeted” intelligence action and suggested that senior officials would point to the Chief Prosecutor during a forthcoming ministerial report. The author, apparently from the KNYF, highlighted that the case concerns Ukrainian money‑carriers and alleged money‑laundering, stemming from the controversial seizure of gold and cash worth over HUF 27 billion during the so‑called “gold convoy” affair.
