Lidl tops Hungarian retail turnover rankings, outpacing rivals
Trade Magazin’s latest ranking of Hungarian retail chains shows Lidl retaining the lead with a gross turnover of HUF 1,802 billion, a 12 % rise from the previous year’s HUF 1,611 billion. Spar remains second with HUF 1,185 billion, while CBA moved into third place after merging with the Kerekes chain, reporting HUF 911 billion. Tesco slipped to fourth with HUF 907 billion, followed by the domestic Coop at HUF 887 billion. Among discount retailers, Penny overtook Aldi, posting HUF 678 billion versus Aldi’s HUF 644 billion. The ranking is based on gross sales figures, which differ from the net‑revenue numbers published in company reports.
The report also notes that the pharmacy and drugstore segment follows, with dm at HUF 275 billion, Rossmann at HUF 212 billion and the Napcsillag‑operated Ecofamily stores at HUF 151 billion.
