Budapest Biodome opens as summer cultural festivals launch across Hungary and neighboring regions

The new Biodome urban oasis opened to the public in Budapest on June 30, showcasing tropical and subtropical plants, capuchin monkeys, Bali mynas and spurred tortoises. Director Endre Sós and Environment Minister László Gajdós highlighted the site’s role in biodiversity education, animal welfare and the government’s new “Living Environment” portfolio.

At the same time, a series of summer music and heritage festivals are kicking off. The 13th VéNégy Festival and Theatrical Encounter runs July 1‑4 in Nagymaros, featuring international acts such as Nouvelle Vague, Kraak & Smaak, and Hungarian groups like Parno Graszt and Bagossy Brothers. In Transylvania, the VIBE Festival (July 2‑5) brings international DJs and pop stars including Alan Walker, Inna and Azahriah, with improved transport and cash‑less payment options.

Other cultural programmes include the Museum Night events in Balassagyarmat, the 42nd Régi Zenei Napok in Vác, and the Hungarikum Napok folk‑culture festival in Nagyszeben (July 3‑5). The EFOTT music festival continues its three‑year Auchan partnership, offering a 300 m² shop, free‑cook stations and community games. In Slovakia, the Slovak Karst Nature Day will be held July 10 with cave‑exploration exhibits.

These events underline a busy cultural calendar in Central Europe, combining new attractions such as the Biodome with established music, museum and folk festivals.
