Hungary's Paks Battery Storage Facility Commences Commercial Operation

Green Energy Investhor (GEI) has launched a 21 MVA/48 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its Paks solar complex. After a 72‑hour trial and final charging tests, the facility entered full commercial operation in June 2026. Funded with 672 million forints from the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility, the system captures surplus solar generation that would otherwise be curtailed and releases it during morning and evening demand peaks, supporting grid stability and enabling participation in ancillary service markets.

At the SNEC 2026 exhibition in Shanghai, Chinese firm Hoenergy displayed four BESS platforms designed for commercial‑industrial (C&I) and utility‑scale projects. The portfolio includes hybrid, all‑in‑one, and modular architectures that can be tailored for peak‑shaving, backup power, solar‑plus‑storage, and grid‑support applications. Hoenergy highlighted flexible expansion options, liquid‑cooling, and integrated battery‑management systems to meet diverse market needs.
