Hungary's Ruff Bálint Calls Extra Session for Education and Health Reforms

Prime Minister’s Office minister Ruff Bálint has asked the Hungarian Parliament to convene an extraordinary session on Monday and Tuesday next week. The government has been requesting weekly extraordinary meetings since the spring session ended on 15 June.

During the upcoming session five draft bills will be debated: amendments to public‑education legislation that would restore organisational autonomy and collective rights for school staff; changes to the vocational‑training law aimed at rationalising training centres; revisions to health‑data management rules to improve system efficiency; a proposal to rationalise police task allocation; and the creation of a special committee to appoint the Media Council’s president and members. The parliament also voted on establishing a National Asset Recovery and Protection Office, a move criticised by civil‑society groups.
