Budapest Airport and MOHU waste review see leadership shifts

Ákos Hadházy, a former Member of Parliament, met with László Gajdos, the Minister responsible for the living environment, to discuss the review of the MOHU waste management concession. The meeting addressed concerns regarding Gergely Kolesár, a deputy state secretary who previously served as a leading lawyer for MOL, and his involvement in the review process.

Minister Gajdos acknowledged that while Kolesár’s previous ties to MOL could present risks, they might also offer advantages, noting that the results of the review will determine the impact. Hadházy stated that the government appears to have a genuine intention to reform the entire waste management system, which he has criticized for lack of transparency and market monopoly. Both parties emphasized the need to ensure that any systemic changes do not disrupt essential waste collection services.

Separately, Budapest Airport Zrt. has undergone a significant leadership change following the state's repurchase of the company. Levente Nagy, a senior advisor to the Minister of Transport and Investment, has been appointed as the new chairman of the board. He is joined by Katalin Sirály, a deputy state secretary, and Gábor Somogyi-Tóth, an industry expert. Several members appointed during the previous administration, including Máté Lóga and Zoltán Guller, have departed the board.
