Hunkkaar: The Roar explores themes of sexual violence and faith

The new web series ‘Hunkkaar: The Roar’, streaming on JioHotstar, explores sensitive themes including sexual violence, faith, and social conditioning. The narrative focuses on a survivor’s struggle to be heard against the influence of social standing and religious belief.

Director Karan D Kapadia and Nitya Mehra developed the project to address the epidemic of rape in India, describing it as a ‘David versus Goliath’ story about speaking one’s truth. Kapadia noted that the production team spent nearly a year in the writers’ room to establish a psychological tone of mounting dread.

Performances are highlighted as a central strength of the series. Fatima Sana Shaikh portrays ACP Jasleen Singh Soin, a new officer investigating a godman, while Raghubir Yadav plays the sinister character Baapji. Zeeshan Ayyub also appears as public prosecutor Babban Rao Bhalerao.
