New South Wales allocates $15 million for Broadmeadow entertainment centre design
The 2026‑27 New South Wales budget earmarked almost $15 million to finalise the design of a new 12,000‑seat entertainment and conference centre at Broadmeadow, known as Newcastle Arena. The state funding is a key step toward a $499 million arena project expected to generate about $41 million a year and anchor a residential and commercial precinct for up to 40,000 residents and 8,000 workers.
Hunter‑region projects also received significant support: $14 million for planning the Broadmeadow precinct, $82.2 million for Stage 1 of the John Hunter Hospital redevelopment, $1 million for a new paediatric oncology unit, and multi‑million allocations for road upgrades such as the Muswellbrook and Singleton bypasses and the Newcastle Inner City bypass. Clean‑energy investment includes $2.2 billion over four years for the $4.7 billion Hunter Transmission Project and $115.5 million for the Newcastle Port Logistics Precinct. The budget also provides nearly $200 million for school infrastructure across the Hunter.
Additional NSW allocations include a $600 million boost for Western Sydney road projects serving the new airport and over $400 million for Illawarra road and health projects, notably $202 million for the Shellharbour Hospital.
