Hunter River pedestrian suspension bridge design unveiled

A $6.1 million pedestrian and cycling suspension bridge design has been unveiled to span the Hunter River. The project will connect Combo Lane at Singleton to Col Fisher Park at Hunterview, serving as a dedicated crossing for walkers and cyclists in the region.

The project is co-funded by the NSW government through a $5,855,016 grant from the Get NSW Active program, with the remaining costs covered by the Singleton Council. The infrastructure includes a 140m suspension bridge, a 30m steel bridge over a creek, and over 1km of new footpaths and shared pathways.

While intended to improve safety by allowing residents to avoid busy main roads, the project has faced objections from landholders on Combo Lane regarding the movement of farm machinery and trucks in the area. The design includes a new footpath on Combo Lane, a quietway, and CCTV cameras at the bridge approach.
