Hunter's Moon to peak in October 2026
The October full moon of 2026, known as the Hunter's Moon, is expected to peak on October 26. In Greece, the lunar event will reach its maximum at 06:12 local time. The moon will appear nearly full starting from the evening of Sunday, October 25.
The term Hunter's Moon refers to the full moon following the Harvest Moon. Historically, this period provided ideal hunting conditions as fields were cleared and animals had grown plump before winter. Various cultures hold different names for this moon: the Dakota call it the Drying Rice Moon, the Anishinaabe refer to it as the Falling Leaves Moon, and the Ojibwe and Haida call it the Freezing Moon or Ice Moon. The Cree refer to it as the Migrating Moon, noting the southward movement of birds.
