Hunting accidents lead to legal action and injuries in Spain and Argentina

Legal and medical consequences are unfolding following several incidents involving firearm negligence during hunting activities in Spain and Argentina.

In Spain, a court in Ponferrada sentenced a hunter to two years and one day in prison after he shot a companion in 2020 at the Oza hunting ground. The victim suffered the amputation of an arm. The judge ruled the incident was caused by gross negligence, as the shooter fired toward movement in dense vegetation without identifying the target or issuing a warning. The defendant was also ordered to pay over 400,000 euros in civil liability.

In Argentina, prosecutors have requested a five-year prison sentence for Juan Carlos Cerrudo following a fatal accident in Feliciano. While the two men, both members of the Abigeato Police Division, were hunting, a .22 caliber rifle being handled by Cerrudo discharged accidentally, striking his partner, César Raúl Benítez, in the head. Benítez later died from his injuries.

Additionally, in San Félix, Argentina, a 45-year-old man named Luis Oscar Álvarez was hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself in the foot while preparing a loaded shotgun at his home. Local police have seized the weapon to investigate the incident.
