Hunting season begins across various French regions

The 2025-2026 hunting season has commenced in various French regions, highlighting both the technical aspects of the sport and its social dynamics. In Vallérargues, in southern France, recent reports from videographer Bruce Boar Hunter document the opening of the wild boar season through several hunts. The reports emphasize the challenges of hunting large males with developed tusks, which can pose significant risks to hunting dogs.

In the Orne department, the season opening brings together hunters across multiple generations, ranging from 18 to 94 years old. While participants emphasize themes of nature, sharing, and safety, the region faces a demographic shift. The Fédération départementale des chasseurs de l’Orne recorded 9,246 hunters for the 2025-2026 season, including 259 women. Despite the issuance of 250 to 300 new permits annually, the total number of hunters in the department is experiencing a steady annual decline of approximately 1% to 3%.
