Hunting seasons and permit updates announced in Alaska and Montana

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has announced that registration moose permits for the Ship Creek drainage in Unit 14C (RM435) will be available exclusively online starting at 8:00 AM on October 6, 2026. A total of 100 permits will be issued to residents and non-residents. The hunt is scheduled for October 25 through November 30, 2026, though it may close early if the harvest quota is met.

In Montana, the pheasant hunting season is set to open on October 10. As part of an annual program authorized by the Legislature, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is conducting pheasant releases across various state lands to encourage new hunters. While residents may begin hunting on the opening date, nonresidents using private or public lands for upland game birds are restricted from starting until October 20.
