Huntingdon College enrollment exceeds 1,000 students
Huntingdon College in Montgomery has reported that its fall enrollment has exceeded 1,000 students, marking the sixth consecutive year of growth for the institution. Following the second week of classes, enrollment stood at 1,018 students, an increase from 959 in the previous fall.
The college noted that this semester includes the largest entering class in its history. According to President Anthony Leigh, students are attracted to the college due to its pre-professional education, athletic opportunities, and campus environment.
Demographically, 72% of the student body is from Alabama, with 20% hailing from Florida and Georgia. Additionally, more than 40 students in the new entering class are participating in a rural teacher education initiative designed to address teacher shortages in small Alabama communities. Residential enrollment also reached a record high, with 87% of students living in campus housing following the addition of new residential units in the Cloverdale neighborhood.
