Huntington Beach flooding damages over 100 structures
Powerful king tides caused significant coastal flooding in Huntington Beach, damaging approximately 114 buildings. The surge forced evacuations and prompted an extensive emergency response from city crews to protect vulnerable neighborhoods, specifically Sunset Beach and Huntington Harbour.
Among the damaged properties, six homes were issued yellow tags to restrict access due to safety concerns. In one instance, saltwater contact with a lithium-ion battery caused a fire inside a structure. The flooding also inundated stretches of the Pacific Coast Highway. City officials have warned that residents must prepare for another potentially destructive surge expected next month.
