Huntingtown man charged with murder in fatal shooting

Troy Elliott Harrod, 43, of Huntingtown, faces first-degree and second-degree murder charges following a fatal shooting on Harvey Road.

According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunshots in the 4400 block of Harvey Road shortly after 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Harrod in a driveway, where he reportedly admitted to shooting someone.

Inside the residence, investigators located Alva Larita Harrod, 55, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead. Detectives recovered a rifle and shell casings from the scene. Harrod was taken into custody and held at the Calvert County Detention Center. The relationship between the two individuals and the motive for the shooting remain under investigation.
