Huntsville Memorial Parkway overpass at Mastin Lake Road reopens

The U.S. 231/U.S. 431 Memorial Parkway mainline and overpass at Mastin Lake Road in Huntsville have fully reopened to traffic. The completion of the overpass marks the end of a three-year construction period aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion in the city.

The $34 million project, a cost-sharing partnership between the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the City of Huntsville, expanded the expressway to a four-lane, limited-access mainline with two-lane frontage roads in each direction. The new overpass features six lanes crossing over Mastin Lake Road.

Construction was carried out by Rogers Group Inc., which began work in June 2023. Local officials noted that the project allows drivers to travel more than 10 miles through the heart of Huntsville without encountering traffic signals or intersections.
