Huánuco students reenact the 1812 Revolution

Approximately 600 students participated in the 27th edition of Pillkumasikuna, a cultural reenactment held in the Plaza Mayor of Huánuco to commemorate the Revolution of 1812. The event honors the historical indigenous uprising against Spanish colonial rule.

Led by educator Yusi Ruiz Berrospi and students from the Marcos Durán Martel educational institution, the performance included delegations from Ambo, Conchamarca, Amarilis, and Santa María del Valle. Participants utilized period-accurate costumes and agricultural products, such as tomatoes, to realistically depict historical events. The reenactment aimed to honor figures such as Juan José Crespo y Castillo, Norberto Haro, and Fray Marcos Durán Martel.

Despite the event being institutionalized by a Regional Ordinance, organizers noted the absence of several key regional and provincial authorities. However, the activity received support from the Director of the Decentralized Culture Directorate, Esperanza Rosales Alcántara, and the district mayor of Amarilis, Roger Hidalgo Panduro.
