Hurricane Fly, dual Champion Hurdle winner, dies at 22

Hurricane Fly, the legendary Willie Mullins-trained racehorse, has died at the age of 22 at the Irish National Stud. A standout of recent National Hunt history, the son of Montjeu secured a record-breaking 22 Grade One victories during his career.

His major achievements included winning the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in both 2011 and 2013, as well as claiming the Irish Champion Hurdle five consecutive times between 2011 and 2015. Following his retirement in 2015, he lived at the Irish National Stud alongside other notable equine champions.

Trainer Willie Mullins described the horse as “one of the biggest legends” to pass through his Closutton yard, noting his bravery and competitive spirit. Jockey Ruby Walsh praised the horse as “the perfect horse,” highlighting his accuracy, speed, and reliability as a jumper.
