Forecasts indicate that Lowell may be near Category 3 strength during its closest approach. Heavy rainfall is expected, with totals potentially exceeding 10 inches on Kauai and the Big Island, and up to 8 inches on Maui, raising the risk of flash flooding and mudslides. In response to the threat, the Hawaii National Guard has been activated, and high-water rescue vehicles are being deployed to Kauai. Officials have urged residents to prepare at least 14 days of essential supplies.

Lowell is one of three active hurricanes in the Pacific, alongside Karina and Marie, a rare occurrence attributed to intense El Niño conditions and warmer ocean temperatures. While Karina and Marie are expected to weaken or remain far from land, Lowell remains a significant threat to the Hawaiian archipelago.
