Hurricane Rachel intensifies to Category 3 in the Pacific FAST-MOVING

Hurricane Rachel has intensified into a Category 3 major hurricane in the Pacific Ocean, moving slowly toward the west-northwest. The storm's center was recently located approximately 390 kilometers south of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, and 415 kilometers west-southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco. Rachel is producing maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h with gusts reaching up to 240 km/h.

Heavy rainfall is expected across several Mexican states. Forecasts predict intense precipitation of 75 to 150 mm for southern Baja California Sur and central/southern Sinaloa, while Nayarit and Jalisco may experience very strong rainfall of 50 to 75 mm. These conditions increase the risk of landslides, flooding, and rising river levels. High surf and dangerous swells, reaching between 4 and 6 meters in Baja California Sur, pose significant risks to maritime activities.

In response to the storm, the Mexican Navy (Semar) has closed several Pacific ports to navigation, including locations in Nayarit, Baja California Sur, Colima, Jalisco, Guerrero, and Sinaloa. In Los Cabos, authorities have suspended school activities and closed 14 beaches as a precaution against high surf and rip currents.
