Hurry Curry wins R M Ansett Classic at Mornington

The Danny O’Brien-trained mare Hurry Curry secured a vital ‘Black Type’ victory at Mornington, winning the Listed R M Ansett Classic (2400m) on Saturday. Ridden by Lachlan Neindorf, the $14 outsider won by a neck over Sunset Park, with Beach Pad finishing a half-length behind in third.

This win is considered significant for the mare’s future as a broodmare for Mark Chittick and Waikato Stud. Jack Howard, representing the O’Brien stable, noted that while the mare has had a solid career, this victory provides the essential ‘Black Type’ win she previously lacked.

Following a third-place finish in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup in March, Hurry Curry had struggled in recent starts due to unsuitable racing distances. The return to 2400 metres and a weight drop to 54 kilos proved decisive. While her immediate future remains uncertain, the stable previously saw success in this race with Saracen Knight in 2022.
