Hurtigruten launches MS Midnatsol on North Cape route from Hamburg

Hurtigruten has officially launched the MS Midnatsol on its North Cape route, departing from Hamburg. The vessel, which underwent extensive modernization and a 50-day renovation in Denmark during early 2026, will operate on a weekly rotation with the MS Finnmarken. This deployment effectively doubles the capacity for cruises from Hamburg to the Norwegian coast.

As part of Hurtigruten’s Signature Class, the MS Midnatsol functions as an expedition cruise ship capable of carrying approximately 550 passengers. Unlike traditional large-scale cruise ships, the vessel is designed to navigate narrow fjords and coastal passages. The service model focuses on longer stays in major tourist destinations while bypassing less accessible ports, offering a hybrid experience between classic coastal routes and expedition cruising.
