Husinec Reservoir nearly dries up due to extreme drought in Czech Republic

The Husinec Reservoir in the Prachatice district has become the first Czech dam to nearly dry up due to extreme drought. The water level has dropped by seven meters, leaving only 30,000 cubic meters of water in the storage area, which represents just 1.3 percent of its normal volume.

As a result, the reservoir will stop assisting the flow of the Blanice River, discharging only the amount of water that flows into it. Jiří Baloun, director of the Horní Vltava plant for Povodí Vltavy, noted that this is an unprecedented event in his professional career.

The South Bohemian Region has declared a state of drought for the entire region. This declaration allows for expedited administrative procedures, such as easier manipulation of water outflows from reservoirs. Additionally, Povodí Vltavy is preemptively reducing outflows from the Římov reservoir near České Budějovice to conserve water.
