Hussein Jabbar Ibrahim discusses Kadim Al Sahir’s potential return to Iraq
Hussein Jabbar Ibrahim, the brother of renowned Iraqi singer Kadim Al Sahir, has addressed the reasons behind his decision to delete a social media post regarding his brother’s potential return to Iraq. Ibrahim stated that the post was removed to prevent his words from being exploited for political or sectarian purposes, noting that the discussion had shifted away from his original intent into controversial debates.
Ibrahim elaborated on the challenges preventing Al Sahir’s return to his homeland, citing the lack of adequate cultural infrastructure and the decline of the music industry since the singer left in 1998. He highlighted several systemic issues, including a lack of social cohesion, the rise of sectarianism, and extremist religious rhetoric directed toward music and the arts.
According to Ibrahim, a return for Al Sahir would require a stable environment characterized by the rule of law and a cultural landscape that respects and supports artists. He suggested that Al Sahir’s return could serve as a significant indicator of improved cultural and artistic conditions within Iraq.
