Husum Port deepening concept under development in Schleswig-Holstein

The state of Schleswig-Holstein is developing a concept to deepen parts of the Port of Husum to accommodate vessels with greater drafts. Currently, ships often face limitations due to depth, and the project aims to dredge a fairway leading to various berths in the outer port.

Economic Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen announced that the State Agency for Coastal Protection, National Park and Marine Conservation (LKN. SH) will lead the study. The initiative seeks to expand the time windows during which tide-dependent ships can navigate the port.

The planning process will evaluate costs, timelines, and potential impacts on existing structures and the Wadden Sea National Park. The North Sea port is state-owned, while the inner harbor is leased for leisure use.
