Hutama Karya pledged to protect water quality in Padang

PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has committed to mitigating environmental impacts caused by the Sitinjau Lauik flyover construction project in Padang. The national strategic project has reportedly degraded the quality of raw water at the Lubuk Paraku source, causing turbidity that complicates clean water processing for Perumda AM Padang.

To address the issue, PT Hutama Karya will construct a sediment trap to prevent excavated materials from being washed into the water supply during heavy rains. Local officials, including Padang City Regional Secretary Raju Minropa and the Head of the West Sumatra National Road Implementation Office, confirmed that agreements are in place between the contractor and the water utility to normalize water conditions. Additionally, PT Hutama Karya is providing chemical clarifying agents to assist in maintaining water quality.
