Hutto City Council evaluates Tesla Cybertrucks for police use
The Hutto City Council has directed municipal staff to conduct a comprehensive cost comparison to determine the feasibility of replacing existing patrol and municipal vehicles with three Tesla Cybertrucks.
The evaluation will extend beyond initial purchase prices to include fuel and maintenance expenses, safety features, vehicle longevity, and the necessity of charging infrastructure. Additionally, officials will examine repair and parts availability, warranties, data privacy, liability, and insurance costs.
Council member Jerrel Reynolds, a Cybertruck owner, suggested the city consult the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which utilizes 10 Cybertruck units donated by venture capitalist Ben Horowitz. Mayor Mike Snyder expressed interest in the potential of electric pickups for the future but emphasized that the decision will depend on the side-by-side cost analysis.
