Huw Edwards launches Substack and publishes poem after child‑image conviction
Former BBC newsreader Huw Edwards, who pleaded guilty in 2024 to possessing indecent images of children, has started a Substack blog called “Croeso. Fáilte. Bienvenue. Welcome”. In his introductory post he said the platform will offer commentary on national affairs, the criminal‑justice system and mental‑health issues, drawing on his four decades of broadcast experience.
Edwards also submitted a poem to the National Eisteddfod’s 2026 competition, writing under the pseudonym “Y Gelyn”. The piece, a tribute to his late father, academic Hywel Teifi Edwards, placed third. His entry sparked criticism from actress and survivor Sera Cracroft, who said it would have been “catastrophic” if he had won, given his recent conviction. Edwards acknowledged the criticism, describing his poem as an attempt to correct what he called a “poisonous narrative” about his relationship with his father.
The Substack posts are scheduled weekly and will remain free of paid subscriptions.
