Hwang Hyun-hee's market warnings resurface amid KOSPI decline

Comedian and investor Hwang Hyun-hee is drawing attention for his market warnings issued three months ago. During an appearance on the YouTube channel ‘Lee Hong-ryeol TV’ in July, Hwang advised against entering the stock market at that time, describing the volatile environment as a stage for professional short-term traders rather than individual investors with full-time jobs.

Hwang, who identifies as a ‘cycle investor,’ stated that he only considers entering the market after a significant correction of at least 30% from previous peaks. He noted that he was maintaining cash positions to wait for such a downturn. Since his comments, the KOSPI has experienced a sharp decline of over 30%, with major stocks like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix seeing significant drops.

Regarding future timing, Hwang suggested that a potential entry point could arise toward the end of the year if news regarding an ‘AI bubble’ or ‘AI crisis’ emerges from the U.S. market. He recommends a split-purchase strategy during corrections and suggests investing in ETFs that track major U.S. indices rather than high-risk individual stocks.
