Hwang Woo-hyun's Book Wins 2026 Korean Academy Natural Sciences Award

Professor Hwang Woo-hyun, honorary professor at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, received the 2026 Korean Academy of Sciences award for the best natural‑science book. His work, "Super Digital Grid: The Final Weapon of the Electrified Era," was selected on July 20 after a review of 2,193 titles published in Korea between March 2025 and February 2026. The Academy chose 70 books in the natural‑science category out of 288 total awardees.

The book proposes a future electricity‑grid architecture that integrates AI, high‑voltage direct‑current transmission, and micro‑grids to support carbon‑neutral goals, renewable‑energy expansion, and the growing demand from electric vehicles and robotics. Hwang previously earned a top‑writing award at the 43rd Korean Science‑Technology Book Awards and a best‑paper prize at the Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers summer conference for related research on the super digital grid.

Hwang expressed gratitude to the university, collaborators, and the publisher, emphasizing his commitment to sustainable energy‑ecosystem research and training future experts.
