Hwaseong City to build Dinosaur Science Center
Hwaseong City is relaunching the construction of the Dinosaur Science Center at the Songsan-myeon Dinosaur Egg Fossil Site. This marks the third attempt to establish the facility following previous pauses in 2015 and 2023.
The project involves an investment of 38.8 billion won to build a two-story facility with a total floor area of 6,848 square meters. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2027, with a target opening in the first half of 2029. The center will feature three permanent exhibition halls: the first focusing on dinosaur egg fossils, the second dedicated to the 'Koreaceratops hwaseongensis' (the first horned dinosaur discovered in Korea), and the third showcasing fossils from the Korea-Mongolia International Dinosaur Expedition.
In addition to exhibitions, the center will include specialized research laboratories for natural heritage and educational spaces designed for children. The city aims to establish the center as a major academic hub for preserving unexcavated natural heritage and a prominent tourism and education destination in the metropolitan area.
