Höxter hunting accident: Experts suggest projectile was a ricochet
Two expert reports have been released regarding a fatal hunting accident that occurred near Warburg in the Höxter district earlier this year. The Paderborn Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the projectile found in the 23-year-old victim's body is likely a ricochet, suggesting the shooter did not intentionally aim at his companion.
However, experts from the independent Institute for Weapons, Ammunition and Ballistics (DEVA) noted that poor visibility conditions at the time of the incident may have made discharging the weapon unsafe. The State Criminal Police Office's report also found no biological traces on the projectile part.
Because the projectile was only a partial component of the ammunition and did not create the typical large wounds associated with hunting rounds, authorities are continuing investigations into negligent homicide. The incident involved a 22-year-old shooter who was positioned in a hunting stand with two other individuals when the shot was fired.
