Hyacinth cultivation techniques for winter blooming
Hyacinths, originally from the Balkans and Asia Minor, can be forced to bloom during the winter months through controlled temperature changes. This process involves a specific thermal regimen: two weeks at 30°C, followed by three weeks at 25.5°C, and finally maintaining 23°C until the flower spike appears. Once the spike develops, a constant temperature of 17°C is recommended.
An alternative method for cultivation is growing hyacinths in water. This technique requires a container that allows the roots to touch the water while ensuring the bulb itself remains above the surface to prevent rotting.
