Hyaluronic acid and key ingredients for skin hydration
Hyaluronic acid is a widely used ingredient in facial care due to its ability to retain water, helping to maintain skin hydration, elasticity, and a uniform appearance. Naturally present in the body—primarily in the skin, eyes, and joints—it can hold more than 1,000 times its weight in water. In cosmetics, it is often used in serums, creams, and masks. The effectiveness of the ingredient can depend on molecular weight: larger molecules tend to stay on the surface to retain water, while smaller molecules may penetrate deeper layers.
During the late summer months, skin requires specific care to combat exposure to sun, heat, salt water, and chlorine. Experts recommend focusing on hydration, barrier reinforcement, and antioxidant protection. Key ingredients for this period include hyaluronic acid, ceramides, peptides, and vitamins C and E. Using vegetable oils such as jojoba, rice, or cacay can also help maintain elasticity and prevent dehydration by providing essential fatty acids.
