Hyannis Transportation Center begins transit boarding upgrades

Construction has begun on upgrades to the Hyannis Transportation Center in Massachusetts to improve safety and passenger comfort. The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) is installing a glass-top canopy over a four-bay sawtooth layout near the terminal entrance on Transportation Avenue.

The project aims to protect riders from bad weather and improve traffic flow at the busy regional hub. CCRTA Administrator John Kennedy stated the redesign will make the area “more functional and safer” by moving the loading area closer to the terminal, reducing passenger walking times to approximately five to ten seconds.

The upgrades are being funded by nearly $4 million from state and federal sources, with substantial completion projected for December. While some local users have expressed support for the improvements, others have suggested less expensive alternatives for covering the boarding area.
