Hyatt and Accor expand European and Mediterranean hotel footprints

Hyatt has expanded its European portfolio with the opening of Thompson Rome, marking the brand's debut in the Italian market. Located on Via delle Botteghe Oscure near Piazza Venezia, the hotel is housed in a renovated 1940s building. The property features 69 rooms and suites, including 19 suites, and integrates historical architectural elements such as a marble staircase and works by artist Gio Pomodoro with contemporary design. The hotel includes three dining and social spaces, including the LYVE restaurant led by executive chef Fabio Fioravanti.

In a separate development, Accor and Corinthia Group (operating as IHI plc) have entered a partnership to integrate five Verdi Hotels properties into Accor’s Handwritten Collection starting in November 2026. The agreement utilizes franchise contracts to provide these high-end establishments with access to Accor’s international distribution network, marketing, and loyalty programs. The affected properties include the Verdi Tunis Beach Resort in Tunisia, three locations in Malta, and one in Portugal, with potential future expansions into Hungary and the Czech Republic.
